Robert Frost, Fire and Ice (December 1920)

I had a desire to try to create a story about a mad scientist who started as a villain but grew into being a hero. Professor Pyrotech was that man-a bit of the stereotypical mad scientist, but evolving into a "Doc Brown" type-in fire generating power armor!

Professor Pyrotech wears a suit of powered armor of his own design. This armor manipulates flame in the form of fiery bursts, or as an aura to help protect him.

Personality

Like many in his profession, Pyrotech wants nothing more than recognition that his theories aren't crazy (even though they are) and that they work (which they do-at least for him). He was driven to the Rogue Islands so that he could be respected, only to discover that he was usually treated as a pawn. He found within himself the strength to realize that he had made some poor decisions, and turned his back on villainy to walk a better path.

If Good feels good, then Pyrotech feels good indeed, because now that he's on the side of the angels, he isn't willing to be dragged back down into the much. With people now calling his work "super-science" instead of "mad science", his transformation to a hero now seems to be complete.

Powers

Ehrlichmann has developed a process where fire uses fire itself as fuel. Does it make sense? Of course not; that's why it's mad science (or if you're being charitable, "super-science"). It shouldn't work by any rational theory of physics, but it's what builds the foundation of Professor Pyrotech's powers. Of course, all of the power is harnessed by his powered armor, without which he couldn't do any of this.
