Dathiro was an Orion pirate who was conscripted in 2409 into the Klingon Defense Force.  Despite his reluctance to get involved with the Klingon/Federation war, he was more or less stuck in the early portion of the year.  As he continued to be promoted up, he began to involve his crew in illegal activities, and used the profits to acquire access to a Vorgon carrier-and hijacked it, leaving his Klingon crew behind.  For a time, he made use of the carrier for the KDF, but found that the best way to avoid the Klingons causing problems in the future was to take advantage of the opening of the Delta Quadrant's Dyson Spheres and abandon the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
