History
The U.S.S. Integral (NX-93055-A) was officially commissioned on stardate 87688.13, not long after the first ship to bear the name was destroyed in action during the Dominion attack on Deep Space Nine in 2409. Like the original ship, the Integral was a test bed for experimental technologies, and was assigned the same crew as the original, headed up by Captain Bill of Borg. The Integral was an important part of the counteroffensive against the Borg, and its crew has become expert in dealing with Borg technology, blending it in with the ship's systems.
Integral's crew is especially notable for having a larger-than-average number of mechanical life forms and cybernetic life forms. The bridge crew of the ship consists almost entirely of individuals who are technologically augmented in some way-if not artificial intelligences themselves.
Features
Defiant-class Features
The Defiant-class escort was described by Captain Benjamin Sisko as a warship, nothing more and nothing less. Decades later, the Integral continues that tradition of battle-readiness.
The Integral has a single Class-10 shuttlecraft stored in its shuttlebay. While the ship can handle a second shuttle, it was removed to make room for Borg technology.
Defense Systems
Integral relies primarily on a polaron weapons suite, in the form of heavy dual cannons and turrets. Augmenting that are fore and aft quantum torpedo bays. A special phaser quad-cannon was jury rigged into the ship as well to further increase the ship's firepower.
The shields on the Integral are an assimilated regenerative shield array, which is not only rapid in reconstructing shield power but also in repelling the plasma weapons favored by the Borg. Borg technology has also allowed the ship use of a multi-regenerative shield array which becomes active when the primary shields have taken excessive damage.
In the event of a hull breach, Borg technology again is used in the form of an autonomous regeneration sequencer, using Borg nanotechnology to repair the hull.
Added to the mix of these assorted technologies is a Starfleet cloaking device, based on the version that had been installed on the original U.S.S. Defiant and the one stolen from the Romulans in the 2200s.
Engineering Systems
The Integral uses an overchared warp core, continuing the Defiant tradition of a ship that is overpowered. The Borg technology put into place on the ship has counterbalanced the excess power supply substantially.
The engines of the ship have been modified heavily with Borg tech, allowing the Integral to travel at transwarp velocities as a matter of course. Additionally, the ship is equipped with advanced quantum slipstream drives, allowing vast areas of space to be traversed in a fraction of the time it would take at top warp velocities. The ship is also equipped with technology allowing it to access Starfleet's transwarp conduit network.
An assimilated deflector array in conjunction with the Borg tech elsewhere on the ship gives Integral improved scientific instrumentation, as well as access to a Borg-derived tractor beam which is superior to the standard Starfleet issue.
