Darth Vader: It is pointless to resist.
George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)

The Dread Bishop is a character that underwent a number of iterations as I tried to work out a solid origin story for him, including a possibility of him being a Praetorian. I eventually settled on a tech-oriented origin, with powers, abilities, and even his look homaging one of the greatest villains of all time. Unfortunately, before I had a chance to develop him, the game closed down. Fortunately, he now has a second chance to live thanks to the Everlasting server.

Personality

The Dread Bishop is a fanatic. His worship of the God in the Machine is absolute. Blasphemers are not tolerated; he may not act immediately on it, but rest assured, the blasphemers will die. He has no interest in leading a flock, however, preferring that others lead the way in that arena. He is more interested in demonstrating his power as proof of his faith.

He has demonstrated a considerable antipathy towards anyone affiliated with Crey Industries, and the more authority such individuals have within the company, the more likely he is to go out of his way to cause them pain and death. If stories are true, it's likely to be very personal for him

Powers

The Bishop, unsurprisingly, depends on advanced technology for his powers. The question is where the technology is housed; it may be housed in his outfit, but it may also be literally a part of him, mechanics replacing organics.

Gravity Control

The Bishop can manipulate the pull of gravity, even to the extent of directing it inwards toward a target. He prefers not to lay hands directly on an enemy, choosing to manhandle them by use of gravity's force.

Psionic Assault

Additionally, the Bishop seems to have some ability to affect the minds of others. It is not the skilled power of manipulating the mind, but the bludgeon of a sudden mental thrust. The Bishop's power is not to control the mind, but to break it.

Additional Powers

Unsurprisingly, technology drives other powers possessed by the Bishop.

Travel?

The Bishop can fly. The exact method isn't known, and he isn't revealing it. It does appear to be vaguely reactionless, and given his control over gravity, may involve the use of that. But it's not known for sure.

Character History

There is a story. A story that involves a grand experiment by Crey Industries, and their attempt to reach the stars via commercial rocket ships. It was to be Earth's first attempt at faster-than-light travel with experimental technologies. The Imperial was to be the crown jewel of Crey-or it would be, if they publicized it. Since Crey doesn't believe in bad publicity, they kept everything quiet. The point was to glory in the return trip with proof of their journey-perhaps some rocks from Pluto.

The Imperial made it out of Earth orbit and that was the last time it was ever seen. The crew was presumed dead. And for years, that seemed to be the end of it. Crey concentrated on other things, and in time, the Imperial was forgotten. At least, by everyone on Earth.

The story goes that the Imperial was not destroyed, but had succeeded beyond Crey's wildest imaginings, having reached into the far side of the galaxy. The story says that the crew encountered aliens who worshiped technology as a god, and it was a jealous god indeed. The crew would not convert, and was slain in sacrifice-all but one. The one enthusiastically embraced the religion, and rose to become a Dread Bishop, to be sent back to the world of his birth to convert the planet to the true faith of the God in the Machine-or to end it.
