The Hyperspace Outlaws was originally a player association (guild) in Star Wars Galaxies. A number of the members would keep in touch through a few different games; in Star Wars: The Old Republic, the guild was reborn and uses the same name in the present day.

Background

Rebellion Era

The Hyperspace Outlaws were formed from a nucleus that eventually settled down on the world of Corellia, far southwest of Coronet City and began building a town called "Horizon". This town attracted many who were annoyed at the growing tyranny of the Galactic Empire and soon, many of its inhabitants joined the Outlaws as an official Rebel cell dedicated to the overthrow of Imperial control on Corellia. This quickly branched out to the galaxy at large, as they made contact with the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

The Outlaws enjoyed a fair amount of success, and some members of the cell were rumored to have played a part in the attack on the Death Star at Endor. By that time, the town of Horizon had become a city, and was one of the largest on the planet; thanks to the Outlaws, a secret Jedi temple was established, which only grew when refugees from Aurilia on Dathomir arrived, just before the Empire blockaded Dathomir. After the death of the Emperor, the Outlaws would eventually split in two. One faction, made up of the members of the Jedi temple, went forth as Aurilian Knights, dedicated to hunting down those who had been opened up to the Force at Aurilia but went Dark; the other became the core of the Corellian Resistance to finally free Corellia.

Horizon itself was destroyed sometime before 8 ABY by a pair of Grand Admirals who were fighting for power over Corellia-and who had gained the information about the nature of Horizon from the spy Zhaven Rel. A few years later, however, the city was rebuilt to its former glory, in part thanks to the donation of a significant amount of funds from the same spy.

The Old Republic Era

Curiously, the name "Hyperspace Outlaws" was also used by a band of heroes operating for the Galactic Republic during the Galactic Cold War in 3643 BBY between the Republic and the Sith Empire. This band consisted of smugglers, soldiers, and Jedi, and operated as individuals across the galaxy. All of them would be caught up together as the war went hot, and in time, they would become involved with the resistance to defeat the Eternal Empire of Zakuul.

There were also rumors that there was a similar band on the side of the Sith Empire consisting of Sith, bounty hunters, and agents of Imperial Intelligence. They were known as Outlaws to the Empire, although it's questionable if there was a relationship with the Hyperspace Outlaws.
