Ra-Sharoth
Ra-Sharoth replaced Dren of the North after that character was killed in action. My base concept was a high-knowledge wizard who had once been the servant of an evil archmage-and had died in his service. Upon being raised, he had...changed, and abandoned his master to find a new path. He wasn't a "good" character by any means, but he was distancing himself from his old evil ways. That said: he didn't see anything wrong with paying evil unto evil.

Description
Ra-Sharoth is a dark haired man, with ice-blue eyes. He keeps his hair cut short, with a short beard. he scorns the traditional wizard's robes, preferring a long tunic over shirt and breeches. He walks with a cane or walking stick (or lately, a Staff of Fireballs), although this is an affectation-he has no impairment to his movement, and has no emotional connection to such tools.
Personality
Ra-Sharoth, while no longer an evil man, is still an arrogant one and has a cold manner. He hasn't gotten the hang of being a "good guy", and it shows. He lacks an enormous amount of empathy, and is prone to coldly state facts instead of offering comfort when called for. In his old life, he viewed knowledge as power, and power was all; now, he uses his power to acquire knowledge, reversing the priorities and how he sees such things.

History
His name was once Julius. In his youth (which he has revealed little about), he was known for his relative weakness...and his sharp intellect. His mind so impressed his parents that they carefully charted out his life's course-to be a mighty wizard. They never considered that Julius might not WANT to have his life mapped out to his dying day. When he began study at a magical academy, he became a student of the dark arts, and apprenticed himself to an evil wizard. In time, Julius would become that wizard's right hand, becoming strong in his magic himself.
It is a truism that the leading cause of death among evil wizards tends to be good adventurers. Which is exactly what happened to Julius. Killed by servants of Heironeous, it seemed his own evil was laid to rest. But he was valued enough by his master that his master would have him raised from the dead. The surprise was that the man raised was not the same man who had died.
Julius could not remember much of that terrible interim between death and rebirth. He recalls vaguely a feeling of judgment, of terrible punishment-and an offer of a second chance. He wasn't stupid. In a few weeks, Julius cast off his former name, taking a new name: Ra-Sharoth, which in the language of the Infernal is roughly translated as "Unredeemed". He abandoned his master, offering as his exit price virtually every magical item he possessed at that time-hoping it would be enough to convince his master that he was not betraying him, but simply looking for a new path.
Being what society considered "evil" obviously hadn't worked out; it was time to try something new. The idea of "helping people" is a new one, but Ra-Sharoth never backed down from a challenge before. He used a scroll to contact another plane to determine (with the aid of a map) what lands would most be in need of his power. Once he had his answer, he traveled to that land, never considering the possibility that the powers answering his questions might have been lying....
Over time, events with a party of adventurers had a dramatic impact on Ra-Sharoth. Due to an encounter in a Valley of Shadows, Ra-Sharoth was killed a second time. THlS time, however, he recalled nothing between death and life-and began to question if his last recollections were ever truly real, a product of a delusional mind in shock from raising, or worse-a lie from the gods themselves. As a result, he believed that he made a terrible mistake to abandon his old way and his master. He cannot go back-but he cannot simply forget what he had learned now. In spite of this, however, he chose to remain apart from his former life; while his current life is more personally dangerous, he finds that there is...something...to it that feels right.
After an encounter with primordial gods to the far South, the party was each rewarded with a single wish. Ra-Sharoth wished for increased intellect-but remains distrustful of the source (wishes were supplied by efreets, and he knows full well the tales of such wishes).
The campaign was put on hiatus for the long term.
