Jenled Lar is an officer in Starfleet, currently not assigned to any fleet. He has recently been given command of the USS Gullwind.

Editor's Note: The timeline for this character may seem strange, given that STO takes place in the years 2409-2410. At the time this background was written, it had been designed to fit in with the timeline of the 26th Fleet. If Jenled is brought in to another situation, this backstory will likely be referred to as an alternate timeline.

Jenled Lar

Gender: Male
Species: Trill (Joined)
Affiliation: United Federation Of Planets

Personality

Jenled can be pretty impulsive-something you don't tend to see in many Trill. While one would think that getting a symbiote would make one more cautious, the Lar symbiote has a desire to live life to the fullest-and getting into someone like Jenled who already was pretty impulsive to start with probably isn't the way to temper that impulse. Despite this, Jenled has learned to cool those impulses as a starship commander. The simple truth is that while he wants to fully experience all life has to offer, he doesn't want to do it at the expense of people who trust him to lead them-and, by extension, to get them out of bad spots alive.

Thus, the Lar symbiote is learning something new: caution, duty, and perhaps more importantly, an understanding of the value of others. In many ways, Jenled may come to be the most important host that Lar has ever been bonded to....

Biography

The Lar Symbiont

Previous hosts:

Ailynn Laggen was born in 2268; she was joined to the young symbiont Lar in 2290. She spent a career in public relations for the Symbiosis Commission, and became its director in 2315. She died in 2331, after suffering a heart attack. Her life was punctuated by sensual excess-the symbiont wanted to experience everything perhaps too fast, too much-even though it had lifetimes ahead of it.

Hashad Pel was born in 2311, and was the next host for Lar. Hashad was an inventor, but his work tended to be small scale in comparison with the great minds that created new ways of advancing warp drive or other major innovations. His work did improve the lives of the average Trill, however, in many small ways. Hashad passed away in 2397 of natural causes.

Lar's third host is Jenled Sharrad.

Early Life

Jenled Sharrad has always been a physical Trill. He began climbing mountains at a young age, but was careful enough to avoid the pitfalls of going unprepared. Like many Trill, he put his name in for consideration to be selected as a host to a symbiont, but he was realistic enough about his chances to make other plans for his life. So, when he was old enough, he was interested in new challenges-and enlisted in Starfleet.

Starfleet Academy

Jenled showed an aptitude for tactical training, so his instructors carefully guided him to such courses. Jenled was an impatient young man, and his recklessness had caused him to nearly fail some of his courses before he made his own personal course correction. Recognizing his danger, he settled down, and managed to get through the academy with passing marks. No honor student, but sufficient to be assigned to a starship.

Tours of Duty

Jenled's cadet cruise found him put into a dicey situation on the USS Kirk where the crew was temporarily trapped in the past at a time when a mysterious probe had disabled starships on its way to Earth. With the entire crew working together, they were able to restore battery power and slingshot back to the present day without affecting history. Jenled himself earned the Starfleet Decoration for Gallantry in saving the crew in Phaser Control from fatal damage caused by systems overloaded by the probe's power. All cadets on the cruise were promoted due to working above and beyond their ranks to help get the Kirk home.

In between duty tours, Jenled was informed that his application to be a host to a symbiont had been accepted. He took a short sabbatical to Trill, and returned as Jenled Lar-and promptly resumed his career.

Jenled's first tour of duty was aboard the USS Bozeman, where he operated in Phaser Control. His service and dedication was noticed early and often; when he was transferred to the USS Pioneer, he was named the Gamma Shift's Tactical Officer. When the bridge crew of the Pioneer was transferred to the USS Hermes, Jenled was brought along as well. The death of the Chief Tactical Officer led to a battlefield promotion for Jenled to Lieutenant Commander.

Not long after, seeking an opportunity to move to the front lines of the Klingon War, Jenled accepted a position as First Officer on the USS Columbus as a Commander. Finally, when the opportunity came for him to gain his own command arrived with the USS Gullwind, he grasped the chance with both hands.

Present Day

On or about stardate 91256.77, a massive Klingon fleet was sent to attack Starbase 381. Admiral sh'Ravel ordered the Gullwind to join the defense, which included the ships of the 26th Fleet. However, Gullwind was disabled early in the battle by a pair of Vor'cha battlecruisers. They were not disabled far enough to prevent the strange displacement that stranded the 26th-and 381-into the region of space referred to as the Outback. Between the two events, Gullwind was damaged badly enough to cripple it in space. The ship was barely able to make it to 381 around stardate 91298, where it was folded into the 26th Fleet. The damage to the ship was enough to keep it docked for its entire time in the Outback, and when contact was resumed with Federation space, Gullwind was towed back to Earth for a refit and reassigned.

Hobbies/Pastimes

Jenled carries with him a love of rock climbing. When on shore leave, he can often be found climbing mountains and other sheer rock faces for the fun of it.
