Personality
In some ways, it's a shame Raa'th wasn't born Klingon. He's got some of the classic traits; short tempered, irritable, and happy to get into a fight. It's not hard to see how Raa'th managed to gain command of a ship so swiftly (admittedly helped out by the incompetence of his supposed superiors).
But Raa'th isn't a Klingon. He understands their codes of honor, but isn't strictly bound to follow them. He understands their motivations, but isn't motivated that way himself. He's somewhat resentful that his own species is more or less a subject species to the Klingon Empire, but he figures it's the only game in town; after all, there's less rules to worry about than in another galactic government like the UFP.
Raa'th relishes combat, even though he's smart enough to realize that hand-to-hand should take a back seat to more portable and longer ranged weapons. But he doesn't ignore the fact that he's as strong as several Klingons, and if backed into a corner, can bite through metal armor with powerful jaws. (He prefers not to do that; it's embarassing.) Raa'th will fight smart-he doesn't believe in berserker furies. He believes in winning-and it doesn't matter to him how.
