History

The U.S.S. Drake (NX-982420) was officially commissioned on stardate 96013.80, as a response to the Iconian threat. Captain Bill of Borg was assigned to command this vessel after a number of Borg technologies proved viable aboard the USS Integral. Drake maintains an NX registry as it is considered a test bed for further experimental technologies.

Drake's crew is especially notable for having a larger-than-average number of mechanical life forms and cybernetic life forms. The bridge crew of the ship consists almost entirely of individuals who are technologically augmented in some way-if not artificial intelligences themselves.

Features

Phantom-class Features

The Phantom-class escort is an Intelligence starship, designed to seek out information about opposing vessels and use the weaknesses found to destroy them. To this end, it possesses a sophisticated sensor suite that allows officers trained in their use to exploit openings in an opposing vessel.

The Drake has a single Class-10 shuttlecraft stored in its shuttlebay. While the ship can handle a second shuttle, it was removed to make room for Borg technology.

Defense Systems

Drake relies primarily on a polaron weapons suite, in the form of heavy dual cannons and turrets. Augmenting that are fore quantum torpedo bays. A special phaser quad-cannon was jury rigged into the ship as well to further increase the ship's firepower. A specialized "heavy phaser lance" rounds out its offensive options. Recently included in the ship's arsenal is a Borg derived cutting ray, allowing the ship to literally carve into enemy vessels. Finally, Drake has access to an experimental hyperexcited ion stream projector.

The shields on the Drake are an assimilated regenerative shield array, which is not only rapid in reconstructing shield power but also in repelling the plasma weapons favored by the Borg. Borg technology has also allowed the ship use of a multi-regenerative shield array which becomes active when the primary shields have taken excessive damage.

In the event of a hull breach, Borg technology again is used in the form of an autonomous regeneration sequencer, using Borg nanotechnology to repair the hull.

Added to the mix of these assorted technologies is a Starfleet cloaking device, based on the version that had been installed on the original U.S.S. Defiant and the one stolen from the Romulans in the 2200s.

Engineering Systems

The Drake uses Kobali Field Stabilizing warp core, which supercharges the ship shields-essential to survive initial detection by the enemy. The Borg technology put into place on the ship has counterbalanced the excess power supply substantially.

The engines of the ship have been modified heavily with Borg tech, allowing the Drake to travel at transwarp velocities as a matter of course. Additionally, the ship is equipped with advanced quantum slipstream drives, allowing vast areas of space to be traversed in a fraction of the time it would take at top warp velocities. The ship is also equipped with technology allowing it to access Starfleet's transwarp conduit network.

An assimilated deflector array in conjunction with the Borg tech elsewhere on the ship gives Drake improved scientific instrumentation, as well as access to a Borg-derived tractor beam which is superior to the standard Starfleet issue.

Position
Commanding Officer
Species
Borg
Biography
Captain Bill commands the Drake.

CDR One of Twelve
Starship
USS Drake
Position
Science officer, XO
Species
Borg
Biography
One of Twelve was liberated by Captain Bill in an action in Borg controlled space in late 2409. Upon regaining his individuality, One nearly killed himself when he realized how much of himself had been replaced by mechanics. Nevertheless, work with counselors have helped him find focus as the science officer on the Drake, and he eventually earned a spot as Bill's first officer.

LCDR Jen
Starship
USS Drake
Position
Tactical officer
Species
Android
Biography
"Jen" is the designation of a Series-V android developed by a species known as the Cor. Based on their physiology and programmed in assorted means of combat, Jen was captured from a Cor warship after it attacked a Starfleet vessel. Upon updating her programming, she was assigned to a captain who the admiralty felt was best able to handle her situation.

LCDR Two of Five
Starship
USS Drake
Position
Chief Engineer
Species
Borg
Biography
Two of Five is from an independent branch of the Borg in the Noro sector in the Beta Quadrant. Two graduating in the same class as Bill, and the two rose up the ranks together, his science meshing with her engineering-and their experience with Borg tech make them the perfect tandem on the Drake.

Dr. Hertz
Starship
USS Drake
Position
Chief Medical Officer
Species
Hologram
Biography
Hertz is a medical hologram based on the pioneering work of Dr. Lewis Zimmerman and improved upon by Professor Timothy Barnes. As with most such holograms, Hertz has been recognized as a sentient being. Borg technology has allowed him to be projected near the presence of Two of Five by incorporating a primitive holoemitter; the two work in tandem quite well.
