Demonflame

Demonflame was yet another character I'd built in CoH before closure. I liked the look of the demon summoning set, and I'd had vague ideas to link her to the Devil's Chamberlain, but time ran out, and that was that for the character. WIth the arrival of the Everlasting server, I remade the character, except this time, I made her a Praetorian; I was looking for characters who could fill out my Praetorian roster, and I thought she might fit the bill nicely.
Pain Domination
Personality
Demonflame was never the nicest person, but she's become outright cruel since selling her soul. Mastery of her demons-and the ability to bind souls of those she has killed to them-has given her a new way to mock her enemies. In short, she enjoys dealing out pain, whether it is physical, mental, or emotional. She will work with others, but only to a very limited extent-her motives remain her own.
Since she sold her soul specifically to have the power to bring down Emperor Cole's regime, it's safe to say that she harbors a tremendous amount of hate towards anyone in power.
Powers
After selling her soul to the devil, Demonflame gained a significant amount of control of a set of demons-as well as the ability to take their pain and use it as necessary.
Demon Summoning
Demonflame's strongest talent is the ability to call up and command demons. While some are "native", others are souls she has claimed after killing their living hosts that she has bound into demonic form.
Her black magic has also allowed her to manifest a whip of hellfire for personal defense. By far, however, she prefers not to be near the fight, letting her demons do that for her.
Pain Domination
By her magic, Demonflame can manipulate the pain suffered by others and transfer it to her preferred targets. This has the effect of giving the targets the sensation of healing-even if it doesn't. (Of course, the pain transferred over is no picnic for the recipients).
Additional Powers
Demonflame's magic has also enabled her to cross large distances rapidly.
Teleportation
At present, Demonflame can only do short hops across Praetoria, but she has expectations that she will be able to use her magic for more-crossing long distances, and teleporting friends and foes as she wishes.
Character History
Lauren Gates didn't have an easy childhood. Her birth parents died due to the carelessness of the Powers Division fighting the Resistance in Nova Praetoria-and she would later suspect that her parents had likely been members of the Resistance themselves. Growing up, she was a ward of the state-and she hated every moment of it, seeing it as having to bow her head to the people who were responsible for the death of her parents. Yet, she could not imagine any way she could retaliate and gain a measure of vengeance against the Emperor-the man she ultimately held responsible.
Gates would find an opportunity in old books discovered during exploration of some caverns; books left by some civilization that had existed underneath the earth known as the Circle. They spoke of a power that could be harnessed, if one was willing to give up their most precious possession: their soul. Power enough, perhaps, to begin to repay those who had wronged her. She made her decision. She took the rituals from the books, and enacted a ritual to summon up a demon lord.
Under most circumstances, Gates would have likely been killed immediately for her temerity. Yet few on Praetoria had the knowledge she had just displayed-and she was offering her soul for power. The demon lord decided that perhaps, with proper tending, it could reap a harvest of evil by granting her a measure of power. It told her how to acquire more magical knowledge, including how to transform her enemies from living human beings into demonic servants of her own. With this, Gates could finally strike back.
And strike back she did. Using the magic she had gained as a result of the deal, she took the name "Demonflame", and joined the Resistance-all the better to give her the chance to wreak havoc on Praetoria. Eventually, her success gave her the opportunity to continue the fight on another world-Primal Earth. The Resistance hoped that she would be able to gather allies to fight for their cause. Demonflame had other ideas-this was her method of gaining allies for herself, beholden to none....
