Ailar

Ailar is an officer in the Romulan Republic, assigned to the Corps of Discovery. She was instrumental in bringing the Republic into its current form, having been present at the formation of the alliance of the Klingon Empire and Starfleet, as well as assisting in the defense against the Elachi threat.

Personality

Ailar has changed a great deal from the time she was a simple colonist to where she is now. But what hasn't changed is her reliance on the methodology of scientific learning and its application to real-life situations. She attempts to apply reason to a situation to determine the best method through it-which has, at times, let some Romulans to accuse her of "acting like a Vulcan". (Her responses to that sort of accusation quickly prove lie to that statement; she's as passionate as any Romulan.)

Ailar still sometimes looks back with regret at the woman she used to be, wondering what life might have been like if Virinat had not been destroyed. She's accepted the responsibility that she has attained, though, recognizing that New Romulus needs Commanders who can help the Republic become a strong government no longer in the shadow of the Tal Shiar and the Star Empire. She knows that her position is as much duty as privilege, as much responsibility as honor. She's vowed not to betray the trust given to her by D'Tan and the people of the Romulan Republic.

Biography

Commander Ailar didn't ever plan on being a starship captain. When Romulus was destroyed in the Hobus disaster, she was effectively homeless, and drifted from place to place as her parents worked on getting her an education. She evinced a strong interest in planetary biospheres, and directed her studies accordingly. Eventually, she settled on the world of Virinat; since everyone on that world was required to at least show basic familiarity with firearms, she took the marksman's test there and did well enough to be asked to serve some time with the colony's security.

When the Elachi destroyed Virinat, Ailar was one of the survivors who managed to commandeer one of the few antique warbirds and-to the surprise of everyone, including herself-showed a knack for command. Over time, she proved to be a somewhat important figure in the newly-birthed Romulan Republic, and assisted the new nation by aligning with the United Federation of Planets. It was in this capacity that she was eventually promoted to the command of the RRW Hobus, a Tulwar-class starship; while she had trepidations about commanding a starship with outlawed thalaron technology, she figures that it's better in her hands than in the hands of someone with a grudge-or worse, the Tal Shiar. Not long after, the Hobus was brought in for a major refit to a Flambard-class variant.
