Lukas Ayelborne

Jump to navigation Jump to search

One of the last campaigns I was involved with, the setting portrayed a pair of empires that didn't get along (to put it kindly). When my original character ceased to really fit in with the party (I did seem to play with players who made somewhat...nastier characters), I made a character who could fit in with their darker natures, yet be interesting enough for me to play: Lukas Ayelborne, a servant of a warlord. Like Dareth Paladinson, this character was originally under the Player's Option ruleset, but is presented here as a regular 2nd Edition character.

Description

Rugged, dark haired with silver streaks, has an almost perpetual sneer on his face. Brown eyes that seem too intense, almost fanatical in attitude. He does NOT look like a wizard, but definitely a skilled soldier.

Personality

Lukas, in a Planescape campaign, would probably be a good example of one of the Fated. He'll set up his goals, and go after them. It works out that at this point, he's set to obey his liege-lord. However, he's extremely self confident; it is usually seen as arrogance, but Lukas really doesn't give a damn what others see it as.

Since his orders, at character start, are to advise Armand, he'll listen to Armand. He doesn't really have too much of an opinion about Armand's military tactics (after all, they're working), but he is extremely intelligent, and will use his not-inconsiderable magical power to its best effect on the battlefield.

Of note: Since the opposition schools of a force mage are alteration and divination, one can be sure that Lukas has dipped heavily into the evocation school as well as the force spells. As a soldier/war wizard, Lukas is willing to use magic as a weapon as deadly as his swords and bow.

History

Basically, Lukas wanted to be a warrior. After all, all of the great heroes of the duchy were warriors, so he figured that it would be great to become one as well. As he went through his basic training, it became obvious to his instructors that his mind would be a greater asset than his swordarm-although he was no slouch in swordplay, either. Lukas also began to change his attitude, from that of a heroic mindset, to a loyalty to his lord-Lord Belok of Zogh-and all of the laws of the duchy.

After engaging as a soldier in a number of skirmishes, the duchy's High Wizard approached him, and offered him the knowledge of secrets arcane and powerful. Lukas was quite interested. He spent three years learning the basics of magic, and the High Wizard discovered that Lukas intuitively grasped the nature of spells involving fields of cohesive energy; indeed, it is possible that Lukas is the world's first "force" mage.

After completing his training, Lukas traveled throughout the duchy, accomplishing each mission he was set to. As he grew more skilled, he found himself able to use any weapon he needed to in order to succeed-magical or physical. Lord Belok noticed it, and appointed him as one of his elite agents, with the authority to back up his decisions.

Recently, his Lord of Zogh has ordered Lukas to advise a newcomer noble-a man named Armand. The Lord of Zogh specifically demanded that Lukas deal with all things magical in Amrand's armies, as they seemed to have little reliance on magic.

Upon arrival with his aide-Kenneth-Lukas was to aid in an investigation into a biowarfare weapon made by the magic of Duke Benay; Armand seemed to have other plans at the time, however. Lukas was also told to obtain the heart of a greater baatezu-a cornugon-which was to take priority over all other considerations.

Rumors and Legends

It's questionable if he was able to obtain the cornugon's heart, but it's probably that he continued to serve his Lord of Zogh faithfully in as many matters as possible, being the magical arsenal of his ally, Armand. It's difficult to say what other adventures he may have engaged in; chronicles end at this point.
