Taggert Jorunson

Taggert Jorunson is a character developed for a campaign where undead were all over (particularly vampires) and humanity recently arrived to the lands occupied by other, older, and wiser races. (Taggert isn't casting aspersions. Honest.) The character gained some fame when he carried a dark god trapped in a box from its old prison to a newly constructed one by master dwarven smiths. Granted, his companions had a lot to do with that, too, since carrying the thing negated every magic item he used....

Description

Taggert is a gray haired, blue eyed dwarf; he looks as if he's been in several wars (and won them single-handedly). He carries a steel shield, and wears full plate armor. He wears a waraxe on a thick belt, and another on his back. He seems to radiate "cranky"...or maybe just "grouchy".

Personality

Taggert's grouchy persona is...well, not much of a personal as much as it is a fact. In many ways, he's happier working the forge, smithing weapons and armor for his people. Unfortunately, being good at fighting and being inducted into the King's Own has put him working alongside adventurers far from home most of the time.

Still, Taggert is loyal to his band of companions, and the only thing that can override that is an order from his King; Taggert is still a dwarf, and his allegiance is ultimately to his people.

History

It is known that Taggert started out as a gifted smith, and quickly became known for his skill with crafting weapons, although he had a knack for armor as well. As a hobby, he worked with stonecarving, and has made a number of small statues. It is also known that, much like all dwarves, he served a stint guarding the magical Gate that occasionally spits Outsiders that assault the dwarves.

One of those assaults slew forty-three out of a fifty guard unit; one of the survivors was Taggert. For their stand at the gate, the remaining seven were inducted into the King's Own, an elite guard of Dwarven Defenders. This obviously included the training necessary to gain the skills and abilities of a Dwarven Defender.

Taggert, for his part, was a reluctant warrior, preferring to return to the forge. Unfortunately, the oath sworn to the dwarven king as a member of the King's Own supercedes his own desires. This probably accounts for the reason Taggert seems so irritable, as he prefers to craft metal or stone instead of fight.

Over the years, Taggert has become involved with a group of adventurers (none of whom were dwarves, of course), and participated in a number of battles that have tested his abilities-and in doing so, become a mightier warrior than he would have ever dreamed.

This was why the dwarven king gave him the responsibility of transporting an imprisoned dark god to a new prison, one constructed so that none could attempt to free the deity. The actual transport would be the most likely time for followers of the god to attempt to free it, so Taggert and his friends took the responsibility to guard the essence of the god until it could be deposited into the new prison. This was done successfully, and gave Taggert the strange-sounding title of "the God-Carrier".

The campaign was put on hiatus in favor of a new campaign.
