Dynah Istori
Dynah Istori is a recent Delta Recruit for Starfleet, tasked to investigate Iconian technology and secrets by the Federation's Temporal Investigations Agency.
Dynah Istori
Gender: Female
Species: Betazoid
Affiliation: United Federation of Planets
Personality
Dynah, at best, likes to take things apart to see how they work. So it's not shocking that if given the opportunity to look over new tech or even different tech, she'd want to be the first in line to take a crack at it with a toolkit. As a Starfleet captain, though, she has to sublimate this so she can have her engineering staff get first crack. This causes her no end of frustration, sometimes.
Dynah has an irreverent streak a mile wide that she also has trouble keeping in check. It's something else she tries to rein in, but again, it sometimes comes out at inappropriate moments (like, say, during communications with a Romulan Empress. Just saying).
Biography
Dynah Istori would like to say she comes from a long line of Starfleet officers, but the truth is, she's the first.
The Istori family dealt construction, for the most part. Even on developed worlds like Betazed, there was always a need for new buildings, and the Istori family was arguably the best around for several hundred kilometers. Their work took a major hit a few decades go, when the Dominion War landed right on Betazed's doorstep and conquered the planet. The Istori family-those who survived the initial crushing attack by the Jem'Hadar-joined an underground resistance, but it was largely ineffective until Starfleet came to liberate the planet-in some cases, literally saving Betazoids from execution by the Jem'Hadar.
Like Dynah's father.
Dynah grew up on stories of Starfleet's daring liberation of her homeworld. Little Dynah found her heroes in names like Janeway, Kirk, and Archer. As she got older, however, she set those stories aside; someone had to help keep the family trade going. On a lark, however, she still applied to Starfleet Academy.
It still surprises her that she was accepted.
When her father found out, she thought that he'd be upset. What upset him, though, was the thought of his daughter not following a dream. Starfleet was something she'd idolized most of her life. He'd never forgive himself if he didn't let her go-and he knew she'd never forgive herself, either. With his blessing, she traveled to Earth and to the Academy. She excelled in several fields, but found the engineering curriculum to be her speed. Her instructors felt that she was destined for better things than just engineering, though-and subtly steered her toward command (sharing at least a few classes with future fellow captain Walter Frost.)
At graduation, a Klingon attack changed the course of her career dramatically....
