Personality

Frost hardly lives up to his name, as a warm and friendly man, willing to learn new things about other cultures and species. He takes the time to try to learn the names of the people serving with him, although this has become more difficult as he has been assigned to larger ships-with accordingly larger crew complements.

His command style differs somewhat, however. While on duty, he does expect the traditional formality between the ranks, and conducts himself with professionalism. In a crisis, he focuses on what must be done to resolve it, attempting to think through not just the immediate situation, but the consequences of resolving the situation.

Biography

Early Life

Walt Frost was born in Bradbury City, Mars, on Stardate 59740.54 to Joseph and Amy Frost, the second child. Growing up, Walt exhibited a knack for games of strategy, but he also had what his peers considered a "restless spirit". While he struggled with his education in early years, he would eventually focus and gain the attention of Starfleet recruiters.

At the urging of his older sister, Jennifer, Walt took the rigorous entrance examinations for Starfleet Academy. His first two attempts were failures. The third attempt was a success, and he entered the Academy on Stardate 80661.18.

Starfleet Academy

Cadet Frost became exposed to the wide variety of species involved in Starfleet immediately, befriending an Andorian (Venkoreth th'Reklaw) and a Bajoran (Zhaven Rel) on his first days. Through them, he came to appreciate the different points of view that they held-points of view that would never have occurred to him as a Human. He would quickly-and unintentionally-form a good-natured rivalry with Cadet Roger Summers, who had been considered the best of his class; their competition had begun during a holographic runabout contest, and would continue until Summers resigned from the Academy.

Cadet Frost excelled in his first two years at the Academy, and chose to take the Command track in his third year. At that time, the war with the Klingons began, forcing him into more combative training than what he had hoped. Despite this, he would graduate from the Academy in 82372.04. For his "cadet cruise", Walt was assigned to the newly refit USS Ranger, a Miranda-class starship under the command of Captain Viktor Storm.

The cruise was aborted in early 2409, when the Borg resurfaced at the Vega Colony. Then-Ensign Frost was forced to take command of the Ranger, and it was through his direction that the ship survived the furious conflict. Upon returning to Spacedock in Sol, he was promoted to Lieutenant and put in permanent command of the Ranger by Admiral Quinn. Shortly afterward, Admiral Masood al-Sania tapped Frost to help organize and oversee the newly formed Corps of Discovery.

Over the following years, Frost has been promoted swifty-mostly because of the ongoing war with the Klingons-and is presently in command of the Odyssey-class USS Frontiersman.

Hobbies/Pastimes

Frost's love of exploration has led him to study the history of assorted explorers, from within and without Starfleet. He took considerable pains to obtain original paper copies of books written about such pioneers, and has even had a program for his replicator to create books out of electronic copies.

Frost also enjoys playing games that stress strategy and long-term planning. He is not quite at Grandmaster level at 3D Chess, but he isn't far from it. He has played Kal-toh enough times to give Vulcans a challenge, and tends to win about a third of the time.

Political Ideology

Frost prefers to have as little to do with politics as he can, focusing on the mission of exploration. While not a pacifist, Frost prefers to negotiate as a first resort. His current assignment will likely force him into a political role more often than he would like.
