Venkoreth th'Reklaw

Gender: Male (thaan)
Species: Andorian
Affiliation: United Federation Of Planets

Personality

Koreth was, in his early Academy days, a somewhat reckless youth. He snuck out of the Academy after curfews, he tended to poke fun at his classmates, and generally didn't take things too seriously-except his studies and training. That all changed after the incident on the U.S.S. Victory. His old friend, Walt Frost observed that some of the fire and easy self-confidence had been damaged by the incident; he became a bit more insular and angry. The thaan that came out of the crucible has managed to take all those traits and put them together-his anger is a controlled anger, and while he may not have supreme self-confidence, he has enough to be willing to take the risks if necessary.

And his sense of humor has come back as well, although not as strongly as before. It's mostly in evidence with old friends, but it is there.

Biography

Koreth says little of his years growing up on Andoria, although indications are that he had been in at least a couple of Ushaan duels (although probably not to the death). He arrived in Starfleet Academy at approximately Stardate 80661.18, and managed to establish a reputation as a competent fighter, but not a serious one. Koreth's record was filled with disciplinary incidents of a non-violent nature (mostly), but his scores and general performance kept him from expulsion in the first year. As his time in the Academy went on, he settled down somewhat, no longer a discipline problem-and full of assurance that he'd make it through.

To his credit, he was correct. But disaster struck during his cadet cruise on Stardate 83493.3. The Saber-class ship U.S.S. Victory was attacked by a Klingon incursion in Eta Eridani, and while the ship fought valiantly, it was no match for the Klingon battlecruisers arrayed against it. Koreth was key to a number of crew members getting out alive, but had to endure the horrific nightmare of floating in a lifepod as the Klingons began to pick off the pods one at a time. Starfleet reinforcements arrived before the Klingons targeted his pod, but the incident scarred Koreth, who returned to the Academy to train the younger classes in personal combat. Some thought his career would end there.

But his old friend Walter Frost wouldn't believe that, and recruited the Andorian as his Executive Officer on the U.S.S. Ranger after the Vega Incident. Partnered up with a number of friends from the Academy, he rose to the occasion, and with each new ship transfer for Frost to take command, Koreth was right there with him. But the last transfer-to the U.S.S. Frontiersman-would be made by Frost alone; this was because Koreth was offered a command of his own-to a new series of escorts based on old Andorian designs. This detail was enough to entice Koreth to accept the promotion to Captain. Koreth's role has now become what he refers to as "the cavalry"; and he's confident enough to serve in that role for as long as it's needed.

Hobbies/Pastimes

Koreth wasn't quite a fitness freak, but he certainly spent a fair amount of time working out and practicing hand-to-hand combat moves. He is skilled with assorted weapons such as Andorian ushaan-tors, Klingon bat'leths, Vulcan lirpas, and-his prized possession-a Tsunkatse falchion, a prize from a conflict on the U.S.S. Pioneer after defeating a Hirogen warrior in personal combat.
